Are you prepared to talk to homeowners about the latest trends in bathroom remodeling? You should be, says HomeAdvisor: More than 60 percent of homeowners seeking the help of a home services professionals are ready to hire. And they’re most likely to hire a professional who can confidently present and discuss the latest trends related to their home projects. Here’s a summary of HomeAdvisor’s top three bathroom-related service requests to help you build on your existing expertise:

Cabinet Upgrades:

Homeowners looking to update and organize their bathrooms are installing new cabinets — whether stock, semi-custom or premium. And, as we saw at the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS), they’re opting for features such as floating vanities, built-in storage, rollout shelves and open shelving in their cabinet designs. According to HomeAdvisor’s True Cost Guide, homeowners spend an average of $2,011 to $7,214 to install new cabinets. This represents only a fraction of overall cabinet costs, which will generally account for as much as 40 percent of a homeowner’s bathroom remodeling budget, according to Consumer Reports.

Shower Stalls:

Custom walk-in showers are the bathroom’s biggest showstoppers in 2016 — and the latest trends have homeowners doing away with thresholds (and sometimes
even bathtubs) to expand on both the features and the footprint of the shower space. As homeowners prepare for aging in place, a number are opting to install grab bars and bench seating. And, whether they’re updating a standard shower or building a custom beauty, most homeowners are opting to install glass tiles as well as multiple or upgraded showerheads for increased function and a spa-like feel. According to HomeAdvisor’s True Cost Guide, homeowners spend an average of $3,115 to install a shower — through the installation of a high-end custom shower may cost as much as $10,000.

Standalone Soaking Tubs:

One of the hottest emerging bathroom trends is the installation of deep, freestanding soaking bathtubs. Unlike built-in bathtubs or bathtubs with glass shower surrounds (both of which appear to be declining in popularity), freestanding bathtubs offer a lot of flexibility in their placement, particularly in larger master baths. Another benefit to soaking tubs is that they come in a variety of shapes and materials, so it’s easy to find a bathtub that will serve as just the right focal point for your unique bathroom design.  According to HomeAdvisor’s True Cost Guide, most homeowners spend between $1,036 and $4,724 to install a bathtub. The cost of a freestanding tub itself can range from about $1,000 to $10,000, depending on its design and materials.
